First Lieutenant William R. Stockard Junior of Frost, Texas, awarded Air Medal for his participation in the invasion of France. He piloted a C-47 and flew in the first wave of 900 planes and gliders of the ninth Troop Carrier Command. He is shown smiling in his pilot uniform that is adorned with badges.
