    Description

Shown is J. M. Kuykendall, contributor to fund for Patton. He is wearing a suit with a handkerchief in the left pocket, tie and eyeglasses. He is standing against a wall and smiling for the camera. A mechanic for the last 15 years in the truck department of Swift & Company's plant here, Kuykendall enlisted at Flint, Texas, in the last war and carries the Soldier's Medal for his part in the Saint (St.) Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives under Patton's leadership. He remembered during World War I, George S. Patton Junior (Jr.) was a "rough-and-tough colonel and every man in the outfit would walk right out and die for him." Kuykendall laid $2 down at the Star-Telegram cashier's window, as his contribution toward a $1,000 bill for the general Patton. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, September 13, 1944.
