Description
Ensign Elbert Randel points out to his mother, Mrs. T. M. Randel, the spot in the Caribbean where his airship went down, casting him and eight companions adrift in a life raft for 52 hours. Ensign Randel and his mother are shown seated at a table in a living room. He is holding an atlas and with a pipe in his right hand pointing the spot in the map to his mother, both looking at the map. Ensign Randel is wearing his navy-pilot hat. Mother Mrs. Randel is wearing a polka-dot dress. In the Naval Air Corps for 25 months, Randel is a command pilot in lighter-than-air craft and has had training in flying heavier-than-air craft. He has been notified of his promotion to lieutenant, junior grade, as of September 1. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 30, 1944.
