    Sailor Tells of Rescue From Icy Waters of English Channel -- Donald Robert Pierson, 22, pharmacist's mate second class in the Navy, whose mother is Mrs. F. A. McAfee, Fort Worth, Texas. He was reared in Fort Worth, is a graduate of Paschal High School, and is home on a 30-day leave. He is shown here. A young man in uniform, standing against a bare wall and is smiling for the camera. On D-Day-plus-three, in Normandy, in peril of attack by a German torpedo caught their craft in the engine room. Pierson was in the icy water of English Channel and was rescued in about an hour. Back on the eastern U. S. seaboard, he telephoned his wife, Mrs. Anne Pierson, in New Orleans. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, July 25, 1944.
