Description
Officer From Italy Is Here -- Warrant Officer John G. Hampton, secretary to Major General (Maj. Gen.) Fred L. Walker, former commander of the 36th Division, returned to the United States recently with the general and is now visiting relatives here. Overseas since April, 1943, Hampton landed at Salerno four hours after the first landings. He was near battle lines, but was not called on to fire a shot during his service overseas. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Hampton, Henrietta, Texas, the warrant officer formerly was associated here in business with his cousin, Mack Simmons. Warrant Officer is shown seated at his desk, wearing uniform, and eyeglasses and smiling for the camera. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, July 25, 1944.
