Description
Copy of a portrait photograph of Private Wink F. Wallace, who was awarded a Purple Heart for a wound he received in action on March 13, 1943, in Tunisia. Private Wallace is a machine gunner in the United States Army. He was wounded during battle while removing the cover from his gun which accidentally discharged. Despite the injury, Private Wallace manned the weapon and refused hospitalization until 12 hours later. He fought off approximately 40 enemy attacks. Private Wallace is a native of Comanche, Texas. He is pictured wearing his military uniform.
