Frank Tulis, tailor at Washer Brothers, purchased an extra $300 in war bonds after receiving the Air Medal from his son, Marine First Lieutenant Robert F. Tulis, which had been awarded to the flier by Admiral Halsey for meritorious achievement in the Solomon Islands area from January 26 to March 7, 1944. Frank Tulis, a native of Czechoslovakia who came to this country in 1910, buys war bonds regularly through the payroll deduction plan in operation at his firm and always manages to buy extra bonds during a war loan drive. Fort the Fifth War Loan he added to his extra bond purchase to fight by the side of his torpedo bomber pilot son who has been in the South Pacific. Lieutenant Tulis, a former football star at North Side High School and A & M College where he was a student for three years, received the Air Medal for 12 strikes against heavily fortified Rabaul and Bougainville areas in the face of intense enemy aircraft fire and severe fighter plan opposition. He also received his wings at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. He sends money home for bonds regularly. In this picture is Frank Tulis holding the bonds and the Air Medal from his son.
