Description

This is a portrait of Marine Private First Class Donald S. Guthrie wearing his military uniform. Wounded by a Japanese sniper the third day of fighting there, Guthrie is on convalescent furlough from a Navy hospital in California vising his mother, Mrs. Katharine Guthrie. He returns to the hospital in California for reassignment June 20. Guthrie entered the service August, 1942 and was sent overseas two months later. He attended school in Dallas. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, June 7, 1944.
