Description
John H. Stiles Junior, age twenty, is home after 14 months duty with the Navy in the Southwest Pacific. He has been in the Navy since September 1942. His ship, the USS Helena was sunk last July 6 in the battle of Kula Gulf. He was in the water six hours watching the battle before being picked up by a destroyer. He is visiting is parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Stiles, Sr., 2016 Mitchell Boulevard. Stiles attended William James Junior High School. Seaman stiles is in dress blues with two stars on his ribbon for major engagements. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, April 27, 1944.
