Description

Mrs. Maurine Shriver of Fort Worth, Texas, right, was the leader of 14 women Marines from Texas who left from Dallas for Camp LaJeune, Atlanta, Georgia. She was a laboratory technician at the Fort Worth Laboratories when she enlisted. Before coming to Fort Worth she taught school at Port Arthur and many of her former students now are Marine. Also in the group was Miss Edith McLeod, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McLeod. She is an honor graduate of NTSTC where she majored in English, French, Spanish and elementary education. She is also a pianist. She was majoring in public school music and education at Texas Christian University when she joined the Marines. She is a graduate of Paschal High School and NTAC. In this picture, Mrs. Maurine Shriver is wearing a light plain dress with dark sleeves and collar. And Miss Edith McLeod is wearing a button jacket with a collar shirt.
