    Description

Private Roy McCollum of Fort Worth has brought Miss Doreen Reid of British West Indies to town and his plans to make her a McCollum is in May. Miss Reid, born of English parents in BWI and educated in England, first set foot on American soil January 27 in Miami, Florida. However, she found it neither strange nor frightening. She thinks America is so much like England, the only difference in the people is in their accents and their attitudes of friendliness. A certain unreserved friendliness earmarks an American anywhere in the world. Miss Reid started to Cheltenham College for Ladies in Gloucester, England, when she was 11. In England, a single school covers all the grades from kindergarten to a college degree, and is referred to as a college. She returned to BWI when she was 17 and helped her father with his sugar and cotton plantation. Miss Reid has a brother with the British army in Italy and another in Trinidad who is employed with the government. She met Private McCollum at a friend's house when he was stationed in the Isles and liked the Poly TWC- ex-student immediately. After their wedding, she and Private McCollum have no definite plans. While Private McCollum is stationed in Amarillo, Miss Reid is staying with his mother, Mrs. Marcia McCollum. In this picture, she is wearing a dress suit with three large buttons with pockets on each side, under the lapel. She has short wavy hair. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram, morning edition, April 2, 1944.
