Ensign Elmo Sledd Irby, 25, standing against a wall in a military uniform. Irby, a former Fort Worth attorney home on leave after months of battle action aboard a destroyer. Irby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest E. Irby attended Paschal High and Texas Christian University and law school at the University of Texas in 1942 before going to a midshipman's school in New York.
