    Description

    N. E. Norton's hobby began with a request for a hunting knife. He was unable to find a six-inch blade for his soldier nephew, so he gathered broken truck springs from the city garage and started making his first knife. More than a year later, Mr. Norton is in the final stages of knife number 106. He is holding a knife similar to the ones he makes for servicemen. When completed, the oil-tempered knives have an overall length of eight and a half inches, a blade width of two inches and weighs three pounds. Each knife cost Mr. Norton $1.08 to make and four hours of his time. The only payment he receives is a letter from the servicemen when the knife is received. Mr. Norton is standing in his garage. He is wearing a hat, button-up shirt, and trousers.
