    Description

    Toy R. Louie borrowed a brush, ink, and cardboard to spell out "Happy New Year" in Chinese characters for his newfound acquaintances at the Service Men's Center. They are, left to right, Miss Tachiu Lee Shum, Private James Joseph, Louie, and Aviation Machinist's mate Pete Ertle. Miss Shum greeted Mr. Louie for the Fort Worth Chinese colony. She is wearing a pinstriped blazer with a matching skirt and a flower in her hair. Private James, 20, is from Altoona, Pennsylvania. He is a veteran of action in the Southwest Pacific. He is dressed in his military uniform. Mr. Louie is wearing a dress shirt, necktie, plaid blazer, and trousers. Mr. Ertle, 23, is from Sterling, Colorado. He is dressed in his military uniform.
