Description
Second Lieutenant Louie R. Dobbs, bombardier of the Flying Fortress "Spirit of 44," destroyed three of 10 German fighters claimed by his crew on the January 11 Oschersleben attack. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fed R. Dobbs and owned and operated a service station at Freeport before he enlisted in 1941. He was one of three Texans aboard the "Spirit of 44" on the Oschersleben mission, which developed an air battle that cost 60 bombers and five fighters and the enemy, 152 planes. The copy is a portrait of Dobbs in full uniform. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 1, 1944.
