    Description

Thomas Nelson Arthur of Lexington, Kentucky, was arrested in Fort Worth, Texas, for impersonating a United States Maritime Service officer. Since November he has traveled from Kentucky to Los Angeles and back posing as Lieutenant and cashing fraudulent checks. R. G. Danner, agent in charge of the Dallas FBI office, announced his arrest. Arthur, twenty-six, entered a plea of guilty when he was arraigned before the United States Commissioner Milam. Milam set bond at $3,000. Arthur was previously arrested for violations of the Dyer Act (transporting a stolen automobile across a state line). He attempted to enlist in every branch of the armed service, but was rejected due his criminal history. Arthur is shown standing against a wall, dressed in the phony uniform. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, January 22, 1944.
