Description
Travis Young has been named the Fort Worth Junior Chamber of Commerce's Outstanding Young Man of the Year for 1943. The award is given to a man between the ages of 21-35 whose civic activities and service to his community have been most outstanding. The award selected by a group of civic leaders will be presented by R. Mayo Bowen, immediate past president of the Chamber of Commerce. A banquet will be held in his honor Wednesday at the Blackstone Hotel. Guests of honor will include Mrs. Young, Young's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Young, and Mrs. Young's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Swor. Mr. Young is shown seated at his office desk, dressed in a collared shirt, necktie, vest, and trousers. He is wearing eyeglasses. His desk is covered with papers, a telephone, a adding machine and other office supplies. Behind the desk is a bookcase with magazines, books, gloves, and a hat. There is a thermometer hanging on the back wall. His first civic club affiliation was with the Jaycees and his first community job was a Goodfellow campaign in 1939. Mr. Young is hard working and associated with several organizations and activities. He was born in Davis, Oklahoma, on October 6, 1908. In 1931 he became associated with ice company. He prefers to build rather than a salesman. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, January 19, 1944.
