Description
Verna McBurnett Burns, who is doing wartime duty as a supply officer with the local branch of Civil Air Patrol (CAP). Using her own plane in courier service over the Southwest, the CAP lieutenant hops into the cockpit of her blue and yellow Taylorcraft and runs errands for essential industries. The job consists of transporting officers on leave, unable to secure return passage, and personnel and cargo of important defense industries such as Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft Corporation and Globe Aircraft Corporation. Mrs. Burns holds a commercial pilot's license, is working on her instructor's license, and is one of the roughly 30 women of the local CAP serving in active flying capacities. She is shown standing against a bare wall, wearing her military uniform.
