Corporal Archie W. Underwood, 45, standing and wearing his military uniform. He is in Fort Worth, Texas on a 30-day furlough. He took a reduction in rank from sergeant to private in order to serve on Guadalcanal where his son was killed in battle. Corporal Underwood served in World War I as a sergeant. Published Fort Worth Star-Telegram Evening Edition December 10, 1943.
