Corporal Bettye Hollis to join Marines. Bettye Hollis is a recruiting and public relations officer of A Company, 5th Battalion, Texas Guardettes, is the first candidate accepted for the Marine Corps Women's Reserve which launched a recruitment drive this week. She is shown her in uniform, half length photograph. The Marines are seeking a Fort Worth and Dallas platoon which will be inducted on December 23, second anniversary of the fall of Wake Island. Miss Hollis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hollis, Sr. is well know in Fort Worth golf circles, having won the city championship consolations in 1941. She also formerly wrote a golf column for the Star-Telegram. She is a graduate of Our Lady of Victory Academy and is former physical education instructor at Our Lady of Victory. Her brother, Chester Hollis, Jr., is an Army aviation cadet at Palms, California. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, December 4, 1943.
