Description
Elizabeth Ann Conlin, 4 yr. old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene W. Conlin Elizabeth Conlin is wearing a uniform with a skirt mid-thigh length and a buttoned jacket over a white blouse. She is wearing white shoes and socks and has a small purse dangling from her left wrist. Her hair is in ringlets under the two-tone hat. Behind her are several children and adults on the street. In best view is a boy carrying a book and wearing what looks like a leather jacket over a white long-sleeved shirt and slacks and boots (no laces in view). There are African American and white spectators in this crowd scene, the girl behind Elizabeth is wearing a coat and socks and pumps with a low heal, carrying a paper bag. Adult women shading their eyes and a boy in a navy hat in the street round out this crowd shot. Clipping: "Sons, Daughters of the U. S. Navy 'Strut Their Stuff' Here Four-Year-Old 'WAVE' Returns Salutes of Units Passing Reviewing Stand By Eleanor Wilson. It was 'eyes starboard' Wednesday as blue-clad sons and daughters of Uncle Sam's Navy came 'bounding' up Main and passed the review stand in front of Hotel Texas. There was even a tang of salt in the air that whipped around the flag-bedecked reviewing stand, and Fort Worth land-lubbers who pushed far out over the sidewalks lining the route of the parade found it easy to draw a parallel between the ocean and the bobbing white-caps of the sailors as wave after wave of Navy personnel marched by in the city's largest Navy Day display. Returning the salutes of every unit that passed was 4-year-old Elizabeth Ann Conlin, dressed in the uniform of a WAVES ensign. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene W. Conlin of 1608 Stella. . . ."
