Description
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Arthur Corbitt and "Lady E" seeing eye dog. A couple sits on a flowery upholstered couch with a German Shepherd Dog seated on the floor between them. The couch is positioned against the brick chimney and blocks the fireplace. A built in book shelf cabinet is beside the chimney and a window above is covered by a Venetian blind. There are objects on the top of the cabinet and fireplace mantle, including framed art and religious iconography along with a stylized sailing ship and a ceramic vase in an upper niche in the brick. Two light sconces frame the niche. Mr. Corbitt is wearing a double-breasted dark suit over light shirt and a dark patterned tie. There is a carnation in his lapel. His striped socks are rolled at the top and he is wearing dark oxford laced shoes. Mildred Corbitt is wearing a dark velvet dress with a high buttoned collar and the bodice gathered at the yoke. Full gathered elbow-length sleeves and a large ornamental button in the collar over a high-V neckline below. See is wearing a small feathered hat and a corsage on her left shoulder. Her only jewelry are a wrist watch and a ring. She is wearing silk stockings and open-toe low pumps. Lady E is wearing a collar and name tags. The carpet under their feet has a woven floral design, the couch has a tiger lily pattern, there are antimacassars and doilies on the back and arm rests of the sofa. The clipping reads: "'Seeing Doub,' Now. They are Mr. And Mrs. Bert Arthur Corbitt now, and Lady E, seeing-eye dog, shown with them, will be 'seeing double' from now on. The blind couple were married in a ceremony Sunday night at the Girls Service League home on Pennsylvania Avenue, where Mrs. Corbitt, the former Miss Mildred Stegall, had made her home. Corbitt obtained the dog some time ago from the Seeing-Eye Dog Institute at Morristown, N. J. The Corbitts will reside at 1408 El Campo."
