Technician Sergeant James E. Aery, 25, nephew of Mrs. G. R. Louden, 2108 Market, returned after a year and a half of combat action. He earned the Air Medal and an Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross for more than 500 combat flying hours. Aery, who was on a Flying Fortress, was not wounded and the squadron of Fortresses he was in never lost an airplane during the 18 months of combat. Aery , who enlisted in the Army in 1938 and went overseas in May, 1940, returned Sept. 22 to San Francisco. In the photograph, Tech. Sgt. Aery is wearing a United States Air Force uniform and is standing in front of a blank wall. There are several medals on the top left pocket.
