Description
Jake H. Hess is retiring as the local freight agent for Santa Fe Railroad after 56 years of service. Mr. Hess began as a railroad man at 15 years old. He started by carrying water for a track gang in Kansas for nine dollars a week. From there Mr. Hess climbed the ladder and has spent more than two decades in Fort Worth, Texas, raising a family. As he approaches the age of 72, Mr. Hess is retiring on doctor's orders. He plans to spend his free time with his wife of 38 years, Mrs. Frances Bell Hess. Mr. Hess is shown pointing to a clock on a fireplace mantel. He is dressed in a pinstripe suit.
