Description
Mrs. E. E. Bryson of Saginaw, Texas, shown with freezing unit, is holding a package of peas in one hand and peaches in the other hand. Mrs. Bryson is wearing a two-toned dress with a leaf design and dark belt. There's a collection of gourds and pine cones hanging on the wall to the right of the freezer. The freezer stands at hip height and has a small square door that opens back onto the other half of the top. When Mrs. E. E. Bryson of Saginaw wants some of the vegetables she grew in her garden last Spring, she goes to her freezing unit rather than to her cupboard. Mrs. Bryson is freezing instead of canning most of the produce from her garden, in an ice cream freezer she obtained for the purpose. Although it is not a large unit she is able to freeze an amazing amount of food such as peas, beans, tomatoes, Elberta peaches (now selling for $7 a bushel), chickens and butter, which Mrs. Bryson makes in an electric churn. Mrs. Bryson uses the freezer for ice cream, too. It is peach ice cream, and very good. I know, because I had some. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 29, 1943.
