    Close up of Pharmacist Mate George P. Hines's shoulder patch, worn by members of the first landing party on Guadalcanal. The shoulder patch is called the "Guadalcanal Diamond" and is a red figure "1" on a field of blue surrounded by white stars depicting the Southern Cross constellation. Written inside the figure "1" is "Guadalcanal."
