Description
The undefeated Texas A&M Aggies are facing off against the Tulane Green Waves in the 1940 Sugar Bowl. Tulane back Monette Butler is shown fighting for the all-important inches at the goal line while an Aggie lineman attempts to push him back. The official in the background jumped on top of the pile and judged that Butler crossed the plane. Others in the photograph are Aggies end James Sterling (67), Stan Nyhan Tulane quarter back (50), and Peter Mandich Tulane's center (84). The Aggies went on to win the game by a score of 14-13 and secured the title of National Champions.
