Her children, Joseph John Johnson Junior, 7, and Henry Clayton Johnson, 4, were adopted in court proceedings in Waco, Texas, by Master Sergeant and Mrs. Jack Sorem so that Mrs. Johnson could join the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (W. A. A. C.).
