Description
Reverend E. L. Carnett, left, is presenting Doctor W. W. Barnes with a gavel carved from an oak tree that stood in a field where the battle of Mansfield, Louisiana, was fought. Under that tree the founder of the Baptist Seminary, B. H. Carroll, was wounded 78 years earlier in the Civil War. Reverend Carnett is dressed in a suit. Dr. Barnes is a professor of church history at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is wearing a three-piece suit.
