    Major E. M. Mallory of the Marine Air Corps Station. "Dean of Marine Corps glider pilots is a 31-year-old major who is commanding officer of Squadron 711 at the Marine Corps Air Station on Eagle Mountain. That means he learned to fly motorless aircraft in the Fall of 1940. He is Major E. M. Mallory, born in Alabama in 1911 (day after Christmas) and a member of the Marine Corps since 1935. He was in charge of organizing the Marine Corps' parachute troops at Lakehurst, N. J., and was the first Marine flyer assigned to study soaring and gliding."
