Description

Seven dogs are saying goodby to their masters and mistresses, at least for the duration, as they are being shipped to the Army's dog corps at Front Royal, Virginia. They are shown with their owners. Left to right: "Perry Lou" with George White; "Sarge" with Mrs. E. E. Massey; "Rex" with Bill Brady (on the box); "Rex" and Mrs. W. O. Wood; "Gracie Boy" and Mrs. W. O. James. In the front are "Wally" and Felix Norton Junior (Jr.) and C. K. Rickel, director of Dogs for Defense in Fort Worth area, holding "Skipper", owned by David S. Baker. The group stands in front of a large wooden building with crates that read "U. S. Army Dog". Majority of the men are wearing dark suits and hats. The ladies are wearing coats with dresses underneath. The seven dogs are part of a shipment of 30 from the Texas unit of Dogs for Defense. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, December 6, 1942.
