A youthful veteran of three major sea battles, Henry Krutilek Junior (Jr.), 21, Aviation Machinist's Mate, 3rd Class Petty officer is pictured here. He is shown standing against a bare wall facing front and wearing his military uniform. He came through the Battle of the Coral Sea, surviving the sinking of the Lexington, and weathered two other sea fights, all without injury but with respect for the enemy's strength. He wears a gold bar symbolic of enlistment and service prior to December 7, 1941, and three stars which stand for the sea battles in which he participated. He is the son of Henry Krutilek Senior (Sr.) who served with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in France during World War I. Leaving Texas A & M College in his second year, Krutilek enlisted in June last year, went first to the Naval Training Station at San Diego and later to the Aviation Machinists School, Naval Air Station, Alameda, California. On a 30-day leave, he's still attached to the Pacific Fleet Carrier Command. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, September 19, 1942.
