Mrs. K. W. Shedd, left, new worker at the United Service Organization (U. S. O.) lounge at the Bowen Bus Center, arranges a bowl of garden flowers with the help of Mrs. James Short, one of the official U. S. O. hostesses. Mrs. Shedd opened the U. S. O. headquarters in the Hotel Texas on May 30, 1941. She has a son, William B. Shedd, who is attending Officer Candidate School at Camp Davis, North Carolina. Mrs. Shedd is wearing a dress with buttons down the bodice. Mrs. Short is wearing a striped, button-down dress, eyeglasses, and a hat with a wide brim. Behind them, stacked on the windowsill, are several boxes of puzzles.
