Description
M. C. Davis (standing in truck), brother and sister due James Mike & Dora Alice Calhoun, and Vernon Roberts (seated, left to right), shown with a pile of scrap rubber for the scrap rubber campaign driven by President Roosevelt. "Here's more than a ton of the stuff Uncle Sam is looking for in his scrap rubber campaign. A little rummaging at Bewley Mills rounded up 2,380 pounds of discarded tires, tubes, and other scrap, which was loaded by M. C. Davis (standing in truck) and hauled to Ben Eastman's Hill Crest Station. A big truck tire that had seen its best days was added to the collection by James Mike and Dora Alice Calhoun, 1809 Clover Lane, and Vernon Roberts, 1712 Clover Lane (seated left to right in the photo). The tire was given them by H. Calhoun, father of the two children, who works for L. J. Miles Construction Company." Mr. Davis is standing on a truck bed next to a tall stack of tires that reaches his shoulders. The three children are seated near a tripod scale among a collection of hoses and tires.
