Description

H. I. Tannahill, service station operator inspecting old tires for the scrap rubber campaign driven by President Roosevelt. "Tarrant County's scrap rubber drive got a big boost when the Hobbs Trailer Company turned in 3,825 pounds of old tires at the Magnolia service station operated at 530 North Main Street by H. I. Tannahill. Tannahill, at left, is shown inspecting a stack of more than 6,000 pounds of old rubber. Garden hoses, old automobile radiator tubing, auto floor mats, and other old rubber articles were in the heap." Mr. Tannahill is standing next to several stacks of tires that are as tall as he is. Other rubber scraps are lying in a pile just in front of the tire stacks. A sign advertising "J. R. Overstreet Magnolia Petroleum Products" is hanging overhead. What appears to be a Mobilgas refueler truck can be seen just behind the stack of tires. Mr. Tannahill himself is holding to miniature tires and looking directly into the camera.
