    Description

Image shows Forest Park Zoo's six year old baby elephant, "Penny" is getting all dolled up for summer. She splurged herself to a manicure and a bath. Zookeepers Clyde Smith, right, and Hamilton Hittson are giving Penny a good scrubbing during the hot summer day. After the soap was washed off with cold water, Penny was given a soothing coat of oil to keep her delicate hide soft and smooth. Mr. Smith is wearing a peaked hat, a button-up shirt with cuffed sleeves, trousers, and rubber boots as he sprays Penny with a hose. There is a soapy bucket with two brooms by Mr. Smith's feet. Mr. Hittson is dressed in a hat, a short sleeve shirt, necktie, and trousers as he scrubs the baby elephant's head Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition June 4, 1942.
