M. A. L. Gardner of Washington D. C. is pictured here. He is the national building advisor for the American Red Cross. He is shown standing against a bare wall, dressed in suits and ties. Mr. Gardner is visiting Texas and one of the busiest men hereabouts. He is trying to round up about 2, 000,000 board feet of lumber for the task of repairing and rebuilding at Crowell, Texas, residential and business sections of which were hit so hard recently by a tornado. He is working in his room at Hotel Texas using telephone and telegraph to line up orders for lumber needed for the tornado affected areas and awaiting final clearance by the War Production Board on priorities and other problems encountered, including transportation. He is confident that sufficient materials can be supplied here to take care of the rebuilding and repairing needs in the Fort Worth flood areas.
