Description

Red and gold seal that on the reverse side of an envelope from Private Robert Paul Little to his parents, Mrs. and Mr. R. R. Little. "Mr. Hirohito no doubt feels certain that the Marines at Midway are so busy with their fighting chores that they have no time for the more polished formalities of life, but if Mr. Hirohito feels that way then he is wrong again. The error of such thought is disclosed in a letter recently received by Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Little, of 2325 Wallace Street, from their son, Private First Class Robert Paul Little, who has been with the Marines since December, 1940, and escaped unscathed in the recent futile effort of the Nipponese to infest Midway Island. It isn't a Christmas seal that the Marines stick to their letters. Its center is the Marine insignia, bearing the service's motto, "Semper Fidelis." And around the edge of the seal is an inscription explaining the Marine's feeling about Midway, 'We'll Hold Midway,' the inscription reads, 'Till Hell Freezes Over.'"
