Description

Group of men who purchased defense bonds. "Challenged Thursday to meet a $19,961,000 defense bond quota for 1942, the Tarrant County committee made plans to intensify greatly its sales campaign and establish central headquarters to facilitate the clerical work of handling Uncle Sam's big investment business... One of the most spectacular cases of mass purchase of bonds occurred Thursday at the Fort Worth National Bank, when 16 business men (all located in the 1300 block of Commerce Street) filed in to put their money on the line for $2,500 worth of defense bonds. Their purchases ranged from $25 to $1,000. All the men, oddly enough, are in some phase of the automobile business. Front row, left to right, R. W. Harwell, Homer L. Darwin, P. S. Carnes, A. S. Cooper, Charles Hillard, E. C. Walters, Sye Hicks. Back row, Tim W. Carter, L. M. Bracewell, Ed Carey, Clyde Bennett, H. G. Windmiller, Van Elliott, Bennie Goldstein, G. J. Post. Robert C. McCourtie is not pictured but sent money anyway." The business men are posed either standing or squatting in two rows, proudly displaying their defense bonds.
