Description
To cadets of North Side High School went the honor of being the first Reserve Officers' Training Corps (R. O. T. C.) unit in the city to purchase a defense bond. Representatives are shown purchasing the $25 bond from J. B. Hamilton (seated), vice president and trust officer of the First National Bank. In back row J. B. Hamilton (seated) selling the bond. In the back row, left to right, are Eddie Engleman, Bill Adams, Colonel Bryce W. Massengale, commandant, and Bobbie Carnahan. Front row, Miss Verna Berrong, faculty sponsor, and corps sponsors Wanda Harmon and LaVonne Wallis. Miss Berrong and J. B. Hamilton are presenting the bond, as a few members of the group look on with smiles. Several rolls and stacks of coins, perhaps quarters, along with a dollar bill, are resting on Mr. Hamilton's desk.
