Evidence that Lena Pope Home boys now in Uncle Sam's service aren't forgetting the home or its "mother," Mrs. E. H. Pope, are these souvenir pillows sent her from points as far away as China, Greenland and Alaska, by her former "boys" who are in all branches of the service. The souvenir pillow idea was started last Mothers Day by six service men on furlough who came back to visit the home where they spent their childhood. The various pillows are displayed on a bed and over the headboard. Most pillows commemorate a state, a branch of service or a poem about mother. Most pillows are of silk material with tassels in the borders. At one end of the bed is a football "48" jersey and other football memorabilia. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 26, 1941.
