Description
Two checks representing a $331.60 residue from a fund for a Texas building at the 1904 World's Fair at St. Louis are shown in the hand of John Henry Kirby, third from left, president of the commission which arranged for the State's participation in the exposition 32 years prior. The money will be used for the planting of two trees to the memory of Paul Waples, who was executive chairman of the commission. In the picture, taken at a Fort Worth Kiwanis Club luncheon, front left to right, are Councilman William Monnig, president of the Texas Frontier Centennial Board of Control; Mrs. Bacon Saunders, member of the women's division of the 1904 commission; John Henry Kirby; Mrs. Adelaide Wandelohr of Sherman, women's division member; L. L. Jester of Dallas, only surviving member of the commission aside from Kirby; and Mrs. Jester, also a women's division member. Back row, left to right, are Amon G. Carter, who accepted one of the checks on behalf of the Frontier Centennial; W. A. Webb of Dallas, general manager of the Texas Central Centennial Exposition, who received one of the checks for that celebration; J. Clyde Jones, who discovered the funds recently; and Homer Covey, Kiwanis president.
