Photo shows the first fire hose reel of the old Volunteer Fire Department, the surviving members of which recently held a meeting. The Volunteer Fire Department covers a period of 1870-1893. Reading from left to right, those in the first row: P. B. Perry, J. H. Taylor, W. G. Gray, John A. Walker, J. H. Maddox, W. H. Tanner, W. J. Ashmore, G. H. Craig, Dave Mabern, Captain S. T. Walker, 36 years in the service and now captain at Number 9 station, and J. M. Howell, captain at the same station. Second row: C. E. Whitlow, Ben Blakley, George Mulkey, G. H. Obechoff, Rollie Matkin, former volunteer chief, E. L. Dunwoody, and James Swayne. The group is posed outside Fort Worth Welding Company building. A sign behind the group reads "First Hose Reel Used in Fort Worth."
