A man awaiting execution, "about to be hung" - Jim Toots with Joe McMillan, Daggett, and Phillips, in Tarrant County jail, original photo dated ca. 1895. [Copy photo made 06/13/1951] Jim Toots was an alias for Jim Burris. Governor Charles A. Culberson would later commute Toots death sentence to life in prison. In 1902 Governor Joseph Sayers pardoned Jim Toots.
