The Shorthorn is the student-run campus newspaper for the University of Texas at Arlington. The Shorthorn began publication in April 1919 as a monthly magazine to replace The Grubonian and was written by the students of Grubbs Vocational College (now the University of Texas at Arlington). In 1922, The Shorthorn changed from a monthly to a weekly publication, and in 1977, it transitioned into a daily publication. In Fall 2012, the paper transitioned to a multi-platform, digital-first publication and the paper adopted a publishing schedule that includes daily publication online and print issues once a week.

The collection includes print and digital newspaper issues, with its earliest issues dating to 1919 through today as the collection is ongoing with future accretions planned. Topically, the issues within this collection include news stories relating to University of Texas at Arlington faculty, staff, and students, as well as additional activities around Arlington, Texas and surrounding communities.
