The Schmidt Family Papers are organized into three series: Photographs, Schmidt Family Papers and Weber Family Papers. The first series, Photographs, include photographs of Jefferson Davis, and the Myers, Schmidt, and Weber families. The Schmidt family images include portraits and photographs of the family in Galveston, Brazoria and Fort Worth. Fort Worth residences and businesses are prominently represented. Weber family photos include Robert and Hazel Weber. Some family photographs were loaned to UTA Special Collections for scanning and returned to the donors. The scanned images have been photocopied for inclusion in the appropriate folder, citing the scan number by which they can be located in the UTA Libraries Digital Gallery. The second series, Schmidt Family Papers, 1894 – 2003, includes artifacts, correspondence, newspaper clippings, genealogical research done by Ruby Schmidt, legal documents, printed materials, scrapbooks and vital records. In addition to the Schmidt and Pfetzing families, the genealogical research also includes Arnoldi, Schultens, and Pape families. The scrapbooks include newspaper clippings, often in German, colorful advertising cards, Confederate currency, and materials related to the Como Social Club Mai Fest, the Knights of Honor and the Texas Spring Palace cyclorama. The third series, Weber Family Papers, 1821 – 1969, includes correspondence, genealogical and legal records. Of particular interest are materials relating to Daniel H. Weber and his family: his transcribed 1911 obituary, and German records including a 1921 cow-pox vaccination certificate, school record, and an 1846 petition seeking dismission from the Ducal Nassauische Political Community for Weber, his wife and four children to allow them to emigrate to Texas. There are also 1852 birth and marriage records from a Galveston Evangelical Lutheran Church in German and 1865 loyalty oaths. This collection would be useful for those interested in the Schmidt and Weber family genealogy. It contains family genealogical records as well as legal records and photographs.
