The Jenkins and Virginia Garrett Family Papers are organized in six series: Series I, Personal Papers, 1870-2012, contains correspondence, education records, scrapbooks, awards, including four award artifacts (stored with the Special Collection Artifact Collection), newspaper articles, Jenkins Garrett’s FBI files, his unpublished manuscript, certificates, cassette tapes, diplomas, speeches, and yearbooks. Also included are Virginia Garrett’s papers relating to the Monday Book Club and Friday Lecture Series, genealogy material such as family trees and articles, and travel material such as itineraries and member lists. Series II, Collecting, 1901-2002, relates to Jenkins Garrett’s collecting efforts. It includes correspondence with various libraries, universities, dealers and collectors as well as book and map catalogs, invoices and statements, auction booklets, and bibliographies. The majority of this series involves copies of material relating to the U.S.-Mexico War that Jenkins Garrett was gathering from other universities, libraries and repositories. This series would be of interest to anyone curious about the nature of collection building, book and map auctions, or the U.S-Mexico War material. Series III, Organizations, 1971-2012, contains material relating to Jenkins and Virginia Garrett’s membership in various organizations. Included are correspondence, meeting minutes, newsletters, programs, newspaper articles, itineraries, membership lists, by laws, and auction programs. This series contains material relating to numerous organizations focused in history, cartography and biblophilia. The organizations range from local, state, national and international levels. Series IV, University of Texas, Arlington, 1962-2012, contains mateirals relating to Jenkins and Virginia Garrett’s affiliation with the University of Texas at Arlington. Included are correspondence with members of Special Collections staff and History Department faculty, collection appraisals, financial material, newsletters, exhibit programs, research papers, cartography syllabi, programs, UTA magazine articles, meeting minutes and flyers. This series would be of interest to anyone studying the history of the University of Texas, Arlington with special emphasis in the History Department and Special Collections library. Series V, University of Texas System, 1964-2004, relates to Jenkins Garrett’s affiliation with the University of Texas System. It includes material relating to his time on the Board of Regents, Chancellor’s Council and the Flying Longhorns Program such as correspondence, staff appointments, financial statements, itineraries, meeting minutes, programs and newsletters. This series contains material that would interest anyone studying the University of Texas System with special emphasis on the administrative side at the University of Texas, Austin. Series VI, Photographs, 1915-2009, holds photographs relating to Jenkins and Virginia Garrett and their friends and family. It includes several albums from various birthdays and anniversary events as well as photographs from their travels, organization events, award ceremonies, UTA and UT System Board of Regents events, as well as their home in Westover Hills.
