Description
Letter from DeLancey Floyd-Jones to his sister Sarah (nicknamed "Sis") from camp two miles from Jalapa. Floyd-Jones' last letter from Mexico. The letter discusses the withdrawal of American forces from Mexico City after Mexican ratification of the peace treaty; the ceremony when the last American troops left the city; prediction of future political instability in Mexico; criticism of President Polk and volunteer troops; and limited prospects for promotion in the Army. The last page is very difficult to read.
