The Dallas Moving Picture Machine Operators Union, Local 249-A was a local affiliate of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Operators of the United States and Canada. Local 249-A was chartered on November 1, 1949 and was comprised of African American motion picture operators in Dallas, Texas. On February 11, 1969, Local 249-A merged with Local 249, which had previously been an all-white local. Collection materials include minutes, photographs, court case, clipping, contract, and booklet. The photographs depict members of Locals 249, 249-A, and 279-A. The clipping and court case involve a suit brought against Local 249 by Samuel R. Tankersley on behalf of the local's Black members over loss of seniority due to the merger.
