Description
1926 Breckenridge High School "Buckarettes" Girls Basketball Team. The team, led by coach Ina Wolfenberger (far left), won the Amateur Athletic Union (A. A. U.) state championship tournament on March 20, 1926, beating the Cisco High School "Queens," 22-19. Pictured in the back row, left to right, are Irene Sullivan, Thelma Russell, Dora Arlosoroff, Laura Mae Speer, Ruth Alexander, and Odessa Pratt. Standing in the front, left to right, are Grace Corbett, Sylvia Thurman, Helen Speer (Captain), Ruby Mansfield, Lucile Dunham, and Francis Henderson. The team won second place in the A. A. U. state championship tournament in 1925, the trophy for which is seen placed on the ground at lower right. The 1926 A. A. U. championship trophy for first place, shaped like a basketball, is seen at lower left. On another copy of this photograph, Basil Clemons wrote "Season Record: 17 games, no defeats, 1 tie. Score 583 points, opponents 240 points."
